What are they?
If you are unhappy with the color, shape, or position of your teeth, you may be a candidate for porcelain veneers. Porcelain laminate veneers provide a conservative approach to improving the esthetics of your smile! Unlike full-coverage crowns, the teeth are minimally prepared, allowing space for porcelain shells to be bonded to the front surfaces of the teeth. The results of this procedure can be remarkable, transforming malaligned, stained, and fractured teeth into a beautiful smile.
Who is a Candidate?
The best candidates for veneers are those with mild crowding, stains on natural teeth, and even spacing between teeth. In some cases when teeth are missing, weakened, or severely crowded, other services may be indicated to achieve the smile you are looking for. Dr. Levine would be happy to meet with you and discuss whether or not you are a candidate for this procedure.
What is the process?
a. The patient presents for a veneer consultation. Impressions and photos are taken of the teeth to help examine the smile. Dr. Levine communicates with the patient to determine their goals for the shape and color of the teeth.
b. A wax-up model of the desired smile is made
c. The patient returns for tooth preparation and leaves that day with temporary veneers.
d. The veneers are fabricated by a highly skilled lab technician.
e. The patient returns to have Dr. Levine bond the veneers! The patient leaves with their new, beautiful smile!
How long do they last?
On average, veneers have a life expectancy of 10-15 years. Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers are very resistant to stain and fracture. However, just like natural teeth, fractures and wear can occur with accidents and grinding. If you have parafunctional habits, it is imperative that you wear a nightguard to protect the lifespan of your smile.
